Treatment with zoledronic acid reduces all types of skeletal-related events (SREs) compared with placebo in men with hormone-refractory prostate cancer metastatic to bone. Zoledronic acid (4 mg every 3 weeks for 24 months) reduced the percentage of patients with SREs compared with placebo. SREs included radiation to bone, pathologic fractures, spinal cord compression, antineoplastic therapy, surgery to bone, and hypercalcemia. Reprinted with permission from Saad et al. [21].
