Diabetic patients had a significantly higher rate of revision due to infection than those without diabetes (1.88% vs. 1.53%, p=0.0052).
In the diabetic subgroup, initial revisions due to infection were reported for 1.47% of the 6071 men with M/R impregnated versus 4.17% of the 624 men with non-impregnated implants.
At 7 years the rate of infection related revisions was significantly lower for the M/R impregnated (1.62%) than for the non-impregnated implants (4.24%, p<0.001).
Revisions due to infection all occurred during the first 3 years after implantation in the diabetic patients
