• Sixty consecutive patients with clinically localized prostate cancer were involved in this prospective study and were randomly divided into two groups (30 patients in each group), group B patients) and underwent LRP with extraperitoneoscopic approach
• In group A a standard ligature of DVC was performed (ligature and subsequent section), in group B a selective ligature of DVC (SLDVC) after its section was performed
• Continence was evaluated during follow up visits at catheter removal and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months, peri-operative variables and pathological features of specimens were recorded
• Student t test, chi-square test and Fisher's exact test and multiple logistic regression analysis were used
