James Catto qualified from Leeds University in 1994 and trained in York, Sheffield and Brisbane, Australia. Since 2007, he has been an Honorary Consultant Urological Surgeon specialising in Pelvic Oncology. In 2004, he obtained a PhD in the molecular biology of bladder cancer and now runs a research group investigating epigenetic events in this disease. His work is funded by a Clinician Scientist fellowship, the MRC, The Urological Foundation and Yorkshire Cancer Research. In 2010, he was awarded the Crystal Matula by the European Association of Urology. He is a member of the Scientific Congress Office and an associate editor for European Urology.
